UFC's Tecia 'The Tiny Tornado' Torres Joins the SHEATH Corps

If you have not already heard of her, Tecia ‘The Tiny Tornado’ Torres is a force to be reckoned with. As a professionally ranked contender in the UFC Women’s Strawweight division and with her extensive fighting history, Torres has made quite the name for herself as one of the fiercest and most calculative fighters to enter the ring. It is with great honor that we welcome The Tiny Tornado into the ranks of the SHEATH Corps.

Torres has been involved with martial arts from a young age, having begun her training in taekwondo as a child and going on to achieve her black belt after twelve years of training. She also has experience as an amateur Muay Thai combatant where she earned a record of sixteen victories and four losses.

Torres’ MMA career began in 2011 when she fought and annihilated in each of her seven amateur bouts in MMA Solutions, US Freedom Fighter Championship and American Battle Championships. In 2012, she received her opportunity as a professional mixed martial artist when she signed to Invicta Fighting Championships, which lead to her professional and promotional debut against Kaiyana Rain on October 6, 2012 at Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama where she won via unanimous decision.

After three more victories during her career with Invicta FC came December 2013, at which point Torres was announced as one of the 11 women to be signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for the newly created Strawweight division. It was also revealed that Torres would be competing in FX’s The Ultimate Fighter reality series in a tournament to crown the inaugural Strawweight champion. She made her way to the season’s quarter finals where she unfortunately lost by majority decision in her bout against Carla Esparza.

The Tiny Tornado made her official UFC debut against competitor Angela Magaña on December 12, 2014. Outstriking Magaña two-to-one over the course of three rounds, Torres won the fight via dominant unanimous decision. She has since gone on to achieve rank no. 5 in the Women’s UFC Strawweight rankings.

Torres’ fight style is as fierce as it is graceful, consisting of devastating lateral movements in tandem with her mastered elements of taekwondo and karate. She elegantly utilizes her large arsenal of kicking techniques, seamlessly following up her powerful high and low kicks with a fast side kick. What’s more is her ability to combine her punches, aggressively pressing forward on the offensive with flurries of high strikes. While she does not often utilize submission techniques, Torres has demonstrated a strong submission defense time and again.

Aside from her remarkable athleticism and ability as a fighter, Torres also has a noteworthy academic background. In 2010, she graduated from the Florida Atlantic University at the age of 20 with a Bachelor of Arts as a double major in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She then went on to receive a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2017 from the same University. Torres is also proudly homosexual and in a loving relationship with UFC Ranked Women’s Bantamweight, Raquel Pennington.

This Saturday, The Tiny Tornado will lay it all on the line as she steps into the ring with Polish mixed martial artist, former 5-time defending champion and rank No. 1 fighter in the Women’s Strawweight division, Joanna Jędrzejczyk. Should Torres win her bout against Jędrzejczyk, she will then have a shot at the title in a match with current Strawweight Champion, Rose ‘Thug’ Namajunas, who Torres fought and defeated in 2013’s Invicta FC 6, but subsequently lost to in their 2016 UFC rematch.

Torres vs. Jędrzejczyk is set to take place in the main card on Saturday, July 28 during UFC Fight Night Alvarez vs Poirier 2 Live on FOX 30 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The card airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
